The last down album was pretty generic.. It wasn't bad but it was no NOLA by any means... I know there style is going from less sludgy to more doomy but IMO what there doing is nothing really new and it's pretty much just retreading water

New Lantlos is definitely leaning waaaay more on the post-rock spectrum than ever. I like it, but I was hoping for something more along the lines of .neon. We'll see though.
Mastodon drummer/vocalist Brann Dailor spoke with Spin.com recently about the bands forthcoming new album which is being primed for a summer release. Of the Nick Raskulinecz (Deftones, Alice In Chains) produced outing, he stated:
“We have a few really kickass rock’n'roll songs on here. We have the metal, the heavy-heavy. We have the totally whacked-out and bizarre. And then we have the super-hooky, big-chorus stuff that’s still bizarre and still Mastodon — but it’s super catchy. It’s wild, all over the place. There’s a lot of variety.”
He also hinted at the possibility of an EP release later on in the year:
“It’s gonna be a summer release, so I feel like it needs to be amped. I don’t feel like it needs to be slow, and doom and gloom. That’s a winter album. We were actually talking about that earlier, like, ‘Why don’t we take some of the stuff that’s really moody and slow and do, like, a winter EP?’”
Fifteen tracks in total were recorded for the album and Dailor gave the aforementioned site an advanced listen to a handful of them. Working titles include:
“Tread Lightly” “Buzzard’s Guts” “Scent Of Bitter Almonds” “Aunt Lisa”
Guitarist/vocalist Bill Kelliher previously mentioned that a new song titled “High Road” may serve as the first single from the release.
It would shock the shit out of me if you listened to any hardcore.
I rep Code Orange Kids, Nails, Dead In the Dirt, Children Of God, Punch, and tons of other Deathwish Inc bands. Ky
While those bands are cool, they're mostly crossover/power-violence.
Do you listen to any actual hardcore bands? Bands like Down To Nothing, Downpresser, Integrity, Rotting Out, Blacklisted, Malfunction, Expire, Fire & Ice, Bent Life, Iron Reagan, Ringworm or Backtrack?

No. I listen to sludgy and/or violent hardcore. Other stuff isn't interesting.

as for that song itself, I thought it was incredible.
