Doug Martin isn't nearly close to Lynch, and my personal philosophy with football, I consider Lynch a better RB than Arian Foster. You should see the size of the holes that he has to run through, Foster is a product of a system. Lynch is about as physical of an RB there is in the NFL, and that wears down defenses.
I think the 49ers are much more equipped to make it than the Seahawks, for a few reasons. Outside of Qwest, the 49ers have not had a game like that. They're not the first team to go into Qwest and to have a lot of problems. The 49ers weren't exposed in any way other than that they can't play in Seattle, which no one can. I'm not worried about that. Second, the 49ers are much better defensive strategists than the Seahawks, in my personal opinion. The Seahawks have a lot to prove to me on Sunday in how they prepare for the Redskins. Third, the 49ers can play on the road. They went into Gillette and beat the Patriots, they went into New Orleans and beat the Saints, they went into Lambeau and beat the Packers.
What I like about Doug Martin is how quickly he came up to speed. Really talented rookie... I might not want Doug Martin on the Seahawks roster over Lynch right now- but in 3 years Martin might be the best back in the NFL. Lynch is hitting his prime now.
The problem I have with the 49ers is their QB situation. frankly, I aint a believer in Kaepernick. Had SF started the season with him, then I'd be more willing to tip my hat to him. But when you make a mid season change at the most important part of your team- I just dont see that going so well when it comes time for the playoffs. perhaps im wrong.

that didn't work too well in 2001 for the Patriots when they started unknown quarterback Tom Brady over Drew Bledsoe......

Tom Brady was placed in for Bledsoe in their second game in the 2001 season. Kaepernick has thrown like 200 passes in his entire NFL career. And that's who SF is going to start in the playoffs? Look- I dont like it. Bad idea IMHO. I hope I am wrong as if the Seahawks don't make the Superbowl then I'd like the other NFC West team to make it.... But I dont see it happening. I think the Seahawks have a better chance of making the superbowl, even with their less than favorable road record.
Wine is totally right about Foster. Everyone forgets that Kubiak is a Shannahan disciple. Kubiak is running a similar system to what Shanny ran in Denver. When that zone blocking scheme works right, you can put your grandma in at running back and they'll gain 1,000 yards. Rueben Droughns? Olandis Gary? Mike Anderson? Tatum Bell? All inferior backs who flourished under the same scheme Foster is in now.

also.... wtf are they doing signing Billy Cundiff? I understand Akers has been struggling, however you really think Cundiff, who arguably hasn't played a game all year, is a suitable replacement? Cundiff might be a good option if you only have to kick 20 yard field goals.

I don't really think the Kaepernick-Brady situations are really that comparable. Brady was in week 2 and Kaepernick was in week 11. The Patriots were OK at best with Bledsoe and the 49ers were contenders with Smith. I'm a Kaepernick believer because I know what he can do on the football field, and he's an incredible leader. He makes throws that no one else can make, and he's developed fantastically over the last 6 games. I don't think there's a situation where he is the reason the 49ers have lost a game, to be perfectly honest.
Doug Martin is hands down one of my favorite rookies, but his ceiling is outside of the top 5, if you ask me. I like David Wilson and Alfred Morris as players a lot more.
Billy Cundiff is an emergency signing. He's going to compete for the kicker's spot throughout the week, then they'll make the decision. I don't really care, honestly, because I don't think that you can rely on either of them to make you a 45 yard game winner.

I might be more of a Kaepernick believer if I had more time to see what he can do... If SF had a better QB than Smith, they should have made the move early on. Honestly the only game I saw him play was Seattle Week 16 and he was awful. something like 50% passing percentage with a pick. I understand that was in Seattle, but still. Awful game.
I also like Morris, however I can't help but think a lot of his success has been riding the coattails of RG3. RG3 is really good at faking a handoff, and when you need to defend both RG3 and Morris on opposite sides of the field and you arent sure who has the ball...... nightmare.
You should be concerned. a 45 yard FG could be the difference between SF playing verses watching the game at home. the 4ish games Cundiff played this season he missed more than half of his kicks from 30+ yards. That's ridiculous. At least Akers has the distance to make it.

I'm not saying that a 45 yard field goal wouldn't be an important capability, I just think that it's a mistake to think that Akers is the same kicker he was last year.
Kaepernick against the Bears and Patriots are two of the most efficient passing performances of the year, and Kaepernick played very well against the Saints. He played well in the OT loss against the Rams, which was a disappointment. The only disappointments I've had from him have been against the Seahawks and the Dolphins. I'll put it this way, I'm not concerned about him going forward.
The 49ers offense needs a lot of shifting and protection changes at the line, and the offense did not have that luxury in Seattle.
You are overestimating the Seahawks in one way and underestimating them in another. One, they do not have what I consider to be a top 3 defense in the league.
Along with Lynch and quarterback Wilson, the Seahawks enter the postseason with the league's top ranked defense, allowing just 15.3 points a game. They are followed closely by their West division rivals the 49ers.

Statistics like scoring defense are pretty difficult to use when it comes to predicting playoff performance, if you ask me. Statistics will hold true throughout the course of a season, but anything can happen in the scope of one game, which is all that matters.
Anyhow, I don't trust them to be the ones to figure out how to stop Washington, which is why I think their defense will underwhelm this weekend. I'd be really happy if they did, however, because it gives teams a great amount of tape on how to do it.

Kaepernick played well against the Bears and Patriots? - okay. that's something. Kaepernick played well against the Saints? - so did everyone else.
Great you have confidence in him; I have my concerns.
Im not saying Akers is the same kicker as he was last year... but I still think he is the better bet going forward. After what Cundiff did in Baltimore, he should be out of a job.
