Brad Holmes - Best GM in football

What a fucking stud this guy is. Bringing in the best man cover guy for our defense outside of Snead. Then getting a guy in the middle of the defense that can push the pocket.

Two moves that were absolutely perfect for this team. SB bound next year baby.

Reader lost a step and was part of the problem with the run defense last year for the bengals where they had been good and he had been stellar hopefully it works out for you but don’t be surprised if he is just okay

Good players on a great contract. not always about top end talent. Reader is a perfect fit for our system. Even more of a fit here than he was in CIN. And brad holmes always signs good contracts.

He didn't have alim mcneil next to him in CIN. His Job in Detroit is going to be to push the pocket which he doesn't need to be athletic for. And stop the run.

We were already one of the best run defenses in the league. Hès going to boost that. We aren't looking for him to come in and be a stud. We're going to ask him to do all the things hes really good at. Im Pumped.

Rex listens to too much sports talk radio

I don't listen to any sports talk radio.

I listen to some podcasts but ive spent the last 2 years watching a ton of football, and trying to learn schematically how it works.

I actually want to get into coaching at the local level.

I truly just love the game. I don't even really.care about any other sports aside from their playoffs anymore. That probably has more to do with detroit sports being historically bad at the.moment though.

For example, ill give you some insight on why this is a good move for detroit.

Detroits defensive coaching staff come from a 3-4 background, but run a 4-3 hybrid style of defense.

In the 3-4, teams have a defensive tackle typically deemed as the "nose tackle" These guys line up over the center in 3-4, and in a 4-3 they line up in the weakside A gap (gap in between center and guard, but on the side of the offense that does not have TE/WR on the line/in the slot).

This position is typically the most physically demanding on the team, because its their Job to take on both center and guard in the run game. They are there to anchor their spot, and not be moved while demanding multiple blockers.

The lions drafted Alim mcneil to fill this role three years ago. The problem is that he is not really suited for this play style. It was quickly realized that he more of what the other DT would be in a 4-3 defense which is called a "3-Tech"

These defensive tackles are typically smaller and more agile than a nose, but also bigger than a DE. Their Job is to split the line and get to the QB, rather than eat up space and hold their ground.

The lions have been searching for a player like reeder forever. Just by stepping on the field his presence demands attention that is typically given to hutch and mcneil. This was one of the best moves by any team in Free agency IMO.

Hutch was a menace to deal with last year. This is going to make his Job so much easier. It also makes the linebackers job easier.
