UNT always had the Eagle mascot and green colors but the term "Mean Green" came about later during the mid 1960's as a nickname to describe the defense of the football team at the time. That team just so happened to feature a player by the name of Joe Greene, who actually got his "Mean Joe" nickname during his NFL years.
And as far as the albino squirrel goes, it's just cool, lol.
Well it's kind of hard when the most winningest QB in college football is gone and your star receiver is gone as well. It's all good though, we been down this road only to head to the title game 2 years later
