My wife is a cook. Head cook for the Peace Meals program in central Illinois. Cooks for 400+ every day.
At the risk of starting a riot, I think I know why there is so much douchbaggery over this gay marriage thing.
Marriage, both the word and the concept, are artifacts of the church. At one time, church and state were intertwined to such an extent that marriage became a legal institution in its own right. Subsequently, church and state parted ways but the concept of marriage remained linked to both. Only authorized officials of the state, and authorized officials of the church, can legally perform the ceremony.
I think the outcry against gay marriage comes primarily from people of the church who feel that the institution of marriage - something they perceive as being 'theirs' - is being corrupted by this uninvited modification to permit something that is expressly forbidden by their laws.
Right or wrong, that is the viewpoint that is causing so much GOSH DARNED HOOO HAAA.
