What a rebel. The problem is people are shit. They can't be trusted to not bring their phone in because they'll just lie and use it anyway. As a comedian, there's a lot less replay value with jokes than there is with music. Especially a high profile dude like Chapelle, people would totally put that shit on youtube. They probably already have. Basically there's a perfectly valid reason behind it and if you don't like it then that's cool, don't go.

Just don't get what the big deal is over someone deciding to not attend something because they'll force you to leave your phone at home, in your car, or they'll take it at the door.
