Life on other planets is a near certainty. The debate really is this:
1: Have they been here? 2: Are they interested or even capable of interaction with humans?
The answer to both seems to be a no.
I actually know people who think that life only exists on planet Earth, and there is no other life anywhere in the Cosmos. When they say that I'm like :
yeah of course it's possible, it's just a statistical improbability. I'd actually find the concept that we are alone in the cosmos being a more terrifying thought then the scariest imaginable predator alien species. Speaking of space... You guys should totally check out the movie Pandorum. It's an excellent movie and has the same feel as Event Horizon. Don't read any reviews about it... Just watch it. You wont regret if you like scary space movies. \m/

I'd really recommend not watching the trailer, however if you want to see the trailer before you invest 2 hours into this movie then here it is. Seriously though- there are spoilers in it and I think it would be best to just watch without seeing the trailer
I wish the ocean got the hype and attention that space did. I find it a lot more interesting. And it seems a little more "real" as far as what we might be able to do with it.

watch my movie suggestion - It's pretty realistic. I claim that I am a lover of Space movies, however I would say most space movies are complete garbage. The space movies I would recommend people to watch are (not in order)
Note : I'd have probably left Alien 3 off the list cause it is honestly a little shitty, but I include it for its close relation. I am purposely leaving off the list all those really horrible alien predator crossover movies. Total garbage.

If you like ocean movies, you might like Waterworld. It's one of those movies that people seem to either really hate or really love. I've seen it a few times. at first i felt I didnt like it much, but then the second time I saw it I didnt think it was that bad. Im not really into Ocean movies that much though.
PS - Regarding my top 5 space movie list I posted above. I said it wasn't in order however if it was in order the Alien movies would soundly come in at 5. The other 4 movies I listed are much better. Sunshine would come in at 4, and I am not sure what order I would rank Event Horizon, Pandorum, and Moon. All three are just so excellent.
