That would be nice. I'd like a younger guy though. Kinda like what your Tigers did. A couple of our old backup catchers like Eddie Perez, David Ross and Gerald Laird have potential
Still too early to determine what kind of manager Ausmus is going to be. He manages by the book like Leyland, sometimes frustratingly so, but I think a large part of it is he's managing a team with World Series aspirations and he doesn't want to fix something that isn't broken. The things that are broken with that team, he can't fix. I think we'll find out more about him as soon as next year when we have to start to rebuild.
Yeah, but look at Bobby Valentine with the Red Sox a couple years back. Bad/mismatched managers can ruin teams.
I remember how the Expos in the early 90s were always down at the bottom of the division. Tom Runnels was their manager and a lot of people thought it was just because they were young that they were bad. They gave him the boot and promoted Felipe Alou and BAM they would've ran away with the division in 94 if not for the strike. He put Pedro in the rotation where Lasorda thought he'd fail and put Wetteland in the bullpen to change him from a AAAA player to a star closer. Some guys just have that touch. Fredi doesn't. Time for a change
Most of the time, managers are there to not fuck everything up like Valentine did. If the roster is talented, usually that wins out. The Royals are going to the playoffs even though Yost is an incredibly incompetent manager.
I think it's a little different for you because you follow an AL team. NL managers have to be a little more on their toes
What makes you say that about Yost though? I've never been able to watch him manage much, but he's a Cox disciple that manned out 3rd base coach slot for years
