:-? Perhaps... Cano just got a very similar contract and he hasn't put up numbers like Cabrera. If he was willing to test free agency, he could get a 300 mil contract.
I wouldn't compare it to Prince Fielder at all. It's more like the contract that Pujols got at 31 and ARoid got at 32. Huge mistakes. I'm not saying he won't be productive, but history shows that every player (except Barry Bonds) starts deteriorating after 33 years old. His numbers will be going downhill for sure, although I''m sure they will still be good numbers, just not $30 Million a year numbers. He will be a DH in 2 or 3 years. Teams offering a contract like this is brilliant for players like Mike Trout or Clayton Kershaw, but no way for someone like him.
Jeter remained productive throughout his 30's up until last season. Cabrera is a safe investment, but I think players like Arod, Pujols, Hamilton, etc proved that no one should be getting 300 mil contracts.
It starts to go to their head. They think they're hot shit cuz everyone wants to sign 'em. Then they find a team that'll spend 250 mil on 'em and they flop.
Cabrera's already proven himself in Detroit though. It's really risky offering a mega contract to a free agent but signing an extension won't likely change the way he plays.

Only to get swept by the Giants in the WS.
Good job, you beat the Yankees. Way to finish strong.
Beating up on the Yankees and seeing their shitty fans cry is just as good at winning it all to me
"It doesn't matter as long as we beat the Yankees."
The motto of every single baseball organization ever.
Jealousy is a sin.

Cabrera is a tiger for life!
Seems like a odd contract to me. 31 years old ...10 years 300 million? yikes. Good luck with that
Jesus fucking Christ, 300?!?!
I'd do it for 50k a year.
This isn't Prince Fielder we're talking about. If he stays healthy it'll be fine. He deserves it.
I never said any team would sign me lol
it's only 248 o. Top of his old contract to
for the best player in the game it's fair

he likes detroit...he got sober here...and the fans are great....plus we have tons of Mexican speaking dudes
dudes gonna win MVP again

it's hilarious watching post game interviews...you can barely understand most of the guys who aren't pitchers )
But yeah I'm sure that helps his comfort level
