Since they started testing for roids, you barely see guys that pitch a lot of innings age particularly well. First it was Halladay, then Sabathia. I've always been a fan of Verlander, but I think it would be naive to think he's gonna bounce back very easily
His work ethic is incredible. For now, at least, he's not losing juice on his fastball. I suspect he'll be fine. I trust his track record more than Scherzer's right now.
could be wishful thinking, but Verlander looked like a guy who's career was on his way down last year. I don't see him being as dominant as he was a few years ago. Scherzers best days could still be ahead of him, while I think Verlanders are behind him.
He was dominant in the playoffs. That's all I needed to see. I don't think Scherzer will have a year like last year, and if he does, he's going to get extremely overpaid. I'd rather have Verlander/Sanchez and have the flexibility to sign other players than dump another 25 million on Scherzer.
Not a pattern of excellence but he did get better every year. He had the best run support in baseball last year by a huge margin, but it was still an incredible year. I don't see him improving on last year, but I see him having a better year than Verlander.

Sherzer declines long-term contract from Tiger's?
Looks like he's holding out for a Yankees-size contract.
I don't blame him for wanting to play through the year
I know a team that will...
If they're gonna pay him $25 million for 7-8 years, the Yankees can have him.
There are plenty of other teams that'll be interested.
Only difference is, the Yankees would still have stacks if they signed Sherzer. His contract would break the bank for most clubs.
Tigers are in deep doo doo
Might be going to a Braves game on Thursday.
Would you rather have Verlander or Sherzer?
And are you satisfied with the amount of money they gave Verlander last season or would you have rather let him walk?
I'm fine with it. I expect he'll have a better season this year.

Scherzer hasn't established a pattern of excellence like Verlander, that's for sure
