This plus the Neumann U87 is gonna fucking SLAP. Plus I’m no longer locked into the Mac ecosystem and it’s future proof for moving back to PC. And I traded in my previous Apollo interface towards this, which itself is a $1,200 box, so it knocked off a decent chunk of this, but still had to come outta pocket somewhat as well.
Essentially, it’s a very high tech external soundcard. There was a time where these were a compromise for a complete soundboard and really only used for mobile recording on tourbuses and shit like that, but they now have such high quality preamps and are so full featured that they can stand toe to toe wit a full soundboard, hence the price.
Good God this thing is glorious. This is the best audio quality I’ve ever heard in my life. It’s insane to me cause I previously had a Universal Audio Apollo, which in it’s own right is considered a top of the line premium interface, so while I knew the Neumann was sposed to be better, what I wasn’t prepared for was how night and fucking day it would be. And not even strictly for the preamps and recording, but even simple playback, whether it’s my own music or leisure listening. I’m on the exact same pair of studio monitors (Yamaha HS8s) and this box literally transformed them. They didn’t sound bad before at all, very far from it actually, but they now sound the best I’ve ever heard them and damn near feel like I got new monitors that are $1,000 more expensive lmao. The converters on this thing are jus absolutely incredible and definitely the best I have ever heard. Neumann is definitely the BMW of the audio world. (Both German too lmao.) Maybe a bit overpriced for the name, but got DAMN if you ain’t getting guaranteed supreme quality that is built like an absolute tank. Textbook case of you get exactly what you pay for.
