Kaepernick played in a spread offense in college. You know that Harbaugh doesn't run anything like that. Alex Smith is a more typical Harbaugh guy. I wouldn't want to see Kaepernick for a while. Spread-option quarterbacks not named Cam Newton have not fared well in the NFL. I'm not saying Kaepernick can't, but he's a project. Be careful what you wish for. Alex Smith is good enough to keep the Niners at a high level for a while.
Harbaugh most definitely has spread concepts in his book that he runs less frequently with Smith. Kaepernick is Harbaugh's guy, not Smith.
Besides, after seeing Kaepernick throw later in the year, I wouldn't say he's a totally changed QB, but he's different. His footwork is 80x better. He's throwing really well.
You shouldn't read into the comment I made as "I think Kaepernick has the best chance to win of all the available QB's," it should be read as "I'd get about as much enjoyment out of finally seeing the Kaepernick offense and a good season as seeing Manning as a 49er and having an excellent season."
The Dolphins have whiffed on every single big-name coach and player they've tried to acquire, and they traded away their best receiver. What a failure that franchise has been lately.

Wow.
