my guess is he won't go to any of those teams...i have a feeling its going to be like the prince fielder thing...it will be a surprise...i don't know there cap situation but i have had a feeling the 49ers might be a fit...i don't care what jim says about Alex....peyton would bring them a SB

I don't think we're going to get him, so I'm keeping my expectations at the level of, say, I might get a high five today.
Why? Satan's right, they're far and away the best choice. I think he might even take less money to play for them.
To further dig the Peyton Manning to the 49ers hole that the media is digging, here's another good quote nugget.
"@SI_JimTrotter: "The owner of one 2011 playoff team told SI that while his club was not pursuing Manning, it would seriously consider signing him (pending a positive medical report) if he phoned and said he wanted to play for them.”
That implies that Peyton said he wanted to play for the 49ers.
Here's why it won't happen, though.
1. The AFC vs. NFC battle is a legitimate one, as he does not want to compete against his brother for the NFC Championship. I don't think it's a coincidence the other two leaders are in the AFC.
2. The 49ers cap situation is very, very dangerous right now. They are exactly 18.5 million dollars under the cap right now. Figuring that the Broncos have offered Manning a contract with a total of 90 million over 5 years, the 49ers wouldn't be able to do anything in the first year over maybe 9 or 10 million dollars. A difference of 9 million dollars in the first year, which is essentially guaranteed, is a lot of fucking money.
3. The surrounding offensive cast. There's a lot to not like, when looking at it from the outside of the organization. Crabtree needs to drop 10 pounds to be able to gain separation from NFL CB's. Moss is ancient. Alex Smith was one of the most sacked QB's last year.
4. He hasn't come in for a visit. This is the one that no one seems to point out, and I think it speaks volumes. Here's a little timeline for you. Manning goes to Denver on the 9th, where he visited with the brass there, then on the 10th, visited the Cardinals. After the Cardinals visit, he goes straight back to North Carolina that night, still the 10th. If the 49ers were ever considered to be interested in his services before Tuesday the 13th, I think he'd have visited them. I think there are two possibilities. Either the 49ers truly entered the market after the 10th, and are then behind the ball, likely costing them Manning, or they have been crossed off his list.
None of this is to say that I wouldn't like to see Manning with the 49ers or that I don't think he's a great quarterback. I just don't see it working out for the 49ers.
Mort says we'll find out Monday or Tuesday. Be prepared for a Manning frenzy weekend like you've never seen.

I think the Smith-Crabtree connection has reached its ceiling though, they need another guy to get him the ball.
I can see them getting another receiver in the early rounds, but in the first?
