Honestly this speaks to a greater issue: people arent willing to check out bands, especially small locals. Like Ive posted my own music in here, asking for what people thought. Good or bad, and nobody says anything. Then you're all "start playing country so people can hear songs they actually want to hear". Thats so counter intuitive to the scene, and thats exactly why country bands have completely taken over local scenes.
Id rather somebody say "I listened to your album and it sucks" than "I have no interest in your music, and you should just play country"
There’s truth to that tho. People ain’t loving or hating it, they ain’t fucking listening at all in the first place. You tell them you’re an artist and they automatically assume you’re garbage because surely if you were good then you would be making millions doing it by now.
This chick I was fucking wit earlier this year really put it in perspective for me. She ended up loving my music, but she had initially put off even listening to it for over a week, even tho she initially asked for the links. When I asked why, she said “Cause I really like you, the person, but would have had to be honest wit you, the artist, if it was garbage, which I didn’t wanna have to do. And your genre and scene especially is so over saturated wit SoundCloud garbage and I figured there was a high possibility that you’d be another one of those.”
And that was an eye opening look straight into how the general population’s mind works wit this type of shit. They see musician, they see local, and you’re automatically lumped in wit the rest of the SoundCloud trash bin, without a second of your music ever even being heard. It’s garbage out here.

My girfriend told me that "its a good thing she thinks my band is good because she probably wouldnt be dating me otherwise" because she "wouldnt have been able to not be honest with me about it"
You guys gotta remember that everyone and their cousin makes music these days. And most of it is God awful. There's no bigger awkward feeling than listening to someone's music and realizing it sucks.

And to add to this, nobody is owed an opinion. I don't feel like telling everyone I've known in a shitty band that their band is shitty. Just don't care to have that interaction.
I'm not even trying to hint that I think your music sucks, it's just that I don't have the care to check out yet another project by another person I know. But to suggest that people don't like new music just because your band isn't getting attention is kind of ridiculous.
Omw to Veil Of Maya rn, hype as fuck. It’s been ages since I been to a straight up Metal show. There was BMTH last October but considering they played mostly the new shit, not quite the same thing lmao. Gonna be a completely different vibe.

Honestly this speaks to a greater issue: people arent willing to check out new bands, especially small locals. Like Ive posted my own music in here, asking for what people thought. Good or bad, and nobody says anything. Then you're all "start playing covers so people can hear songs they actually want to hear". Thats so counter intuitive to the scene, and thats exactly why cover bands have completely taken over local scenes.
Id rather somebody say "I listened to your album and it sucks" than "I have no interest in your music, and you should just play covers"
It’s not so cut and dry that “your music sucks” and that narrow minded viewpoint isn’t doing anything to help your band either. People in really good bands still don’t always make it. Music that sucks often does. That’s not the point.
You complained you can’t get booked. The “whole do some covers” conversation was to add more booking options to the table. I had just heard an interview with David from Disturbed on satellite XM where he said the reason Disturbed did covers (shout 2000) early in their career was because they couldn’t get booked anywhere. The covers let them play a bunch of bars and other gigs that were not being offered to them. In your fucking area. They took a song or two and made them their own, then mixed in their own shit as well. People wanna hear shit they know. After the second or third time playing a spot, people knew their original shit as well. You even posted on FB about some weird Japanese band punk cover or something.
Ok, you won’t do covers. Your socials were dead af. Can’t even get 5 likes. We say get a tik tok going cuz it’s the hottest thing right now, and you won’t. Won’t advertise the band for free cuz Chyna. Still not seeing YouTube shorts or fb reels either. You claim 40k in the bank and wouldn’t even pay $400 for a video with a band logo in the damn thing. Band branding is whatever. Last gig video I watched (which was forever ago) had no fucking movement. At all. None. I remember the drummer headbanging for a minute at the end. Otherwise nothing. Ok. Don’t know the words, can’t sing. No movement, so there will be no crowd participation either. No singing, no chanting, no clapping, no fist pumping. There are no visuals to look at either.
Where’s the hook?
Overall, It’s the business decisions that fucking suck.
