Lol @ Jake being like "metal needs to innovate" then listening to rehashed 80s music
I mean...I get it, but it's still p funny
Coming from the guy made the blanket statement that synth is 100% wholly inspired by video games your comment really doesnt hold much weight.
I didn't say that. It was a discussion about why so many metal kids were embracing synth and I said video games...primarily because I feel like most music trends have a lot to do with gaming right now. I mean...you should've seen the traffic on the Ozzboards when Guitar Hero was big. I just think gaming is a legit gateway to stuff like that
yeah you're right i misunderstood. I think your points were referring to what influences the fanbase itself (which i can fully admit video games are a driving force) while i was more talking about the musical influences of the artists themselves
What a lot of people don't know is that synth never really died. It just mutated and got blended in with other music, kept alive via stuff like anime scores. I used to be a huge Alec Empire/Atari Teenage Riot fan and under all the noise they piled on is synth music. I see stuff like that as more the missing link with synth for the actual artists. Movies are a big deal too. The fact that Blade Runner is so iconic helped keep Vangelis relevant. I own several of his scores on vinyl just based off of that
Yes some like Uzi and Playboi Carti have EDM influenced beats. I also hear some metal influence in the songs. A lot of the beats are getting a lot of darker in tone.

yeah but the metal and punk influence that's apparent in a Uzi or a X is mostly in texture or ambience. and lots not act like hip-hop hasn't always had a dark side exclusive of metal/punk influence. A lot of the dark sound is more influenced by Three 6 than by any metal bands. When it come to the actual instrumentation, rhythms, melody etc it's more inspired by electronic music and made electronically. Lil Yachty is rapping on beats by Diplo and DJ Carnage. even when Lil Yachty tried making that weird 80's r&b/pop song "bring it back", they used synthesizers for everything instead of just getting a band to record the song, even though that's what he clearly wanted to emulate.
EDM was more popular back in 2012-2014 than it is today imo. Every pop song that was out had some famous DJ's name to. Calvin Harris who was known for his house electropop has even moved on to making hip hop *See Funk Wav Flex Vol 1*

yeah once white america started liking Migos and Future hip-hop took over. We'll see if it lasts, but I'd rather drown in trap than edm
Years of waiting and hype and Portugal. The Man drops a compilation of radio bangers. My locked up number one probably doesn't even end up in my top 20. King Krule fucking delivered though. Only two listens and I think he locked up #1. I was nervous when I saw 19 tracks but he managed to pull it off.
