if you just talk about the band and not the singer i give maiden some credit , but their is something about a guy singing about battles and lucifer and stuff and you know he would get his ass beat by a twelve year old girl. Phil anselmo can at least walk the walk with his lyrics...

Bruce Dickenson makes the band what it is, and that is my favorite band.

While I don't necessarily consider that true, it doesn't matter. Dime may have written better riffs, but Maiden still made better music as a whole. The only reason he gets as much respect as he does today is because he's dead. He was good, but not perfect, people seem to forget that.

Then you couldn't ever defend Slayer. They write some of the worst lyrics in metal, but their music is awesome.
