You just have to find good stuff. There is a lot of garbage to weed through, but a lot of really good stuff too. I think Japanese animation is better than American cartoons as a whole.
I guess it depends on what you're stacking it up against. If you're thinking of like Mickey Mouse Club, then yeah. But if you put anime up against Adventure Time, it's a first round knockout

I really like Adventure Time, but most anime I like is MUCH better.
American cartoons are mainly for comedy. I love shows like Metalocalypse, and Ren and Stimpy, and Invader Zim and whatnot. But they're comedies, not super story heavy. (Metalocalypse has a good story too, but still). Same applies to Adventure Time. Its fun, and has a good story, but not as good and deep as many Japanese cartoons do. Or they're like the 90s Batman: The Animated series, which is great but still.
The closest American show is Avatar: The Last Airbender/Legend of Korra (both of which are fantastic.
Dont get me wrong, there are some American cartoons I adore, but typically Japanese animation is a lot deeper and more interesting, and usually the art and animation is of a lot better quality.
Even ecchi and hentai are story driven, and they're animated porn.
I need a suggestion then. Gimme something that's heady like AT but colorful with cool music that kids would dig. Cuz AT is the only thing everyone in my house enjoys and it would be nice to add something into the mix

I have a playlist they watch that revolves mostly around AT, old Pee Wee episodes, Early Spongebob, Rabbids Invasion, Powerpuff Girls and a bunch of music videos. Those kinda appease the whole house because even if they're retarded, they're funny. The kids like shit like Caillou and Curious George, but if I watch too much of either in a day I'll shoot myself
