Want to do something worthwhile for others? Go donate a pint of blood.
with the tornado season just starting with dozens of dead and injured, as well as everyday accidents, etc... there is a constant need for donated blood. but I have a more selfish reason to ask.
my mom was recently diagnosed with, what they think is myelodysplastic anemia, but without the painful bone marrow test that leads to the painful treatment, they don't know for sure. her body just isn't making it's own blood anymore. and she's in her 80's so the aggressive treatment isn't recommended anyways. the only way they can treat her is to keep monitoring her blood levels and giving her a couple pints of B negative once a month or so. but even that isn't going to work for long.
so go fill out a form, roll up your sleeve and remember that giving blood buys someone out there the chance at a little more time to live, even if its just one more month.
