Thought I'd post a few from the exhibit. It was pretty cool. Spent like 45 minutes in there after waiting for like an hour and a half to get in. The Iron Throne was surprisingly comfy.
Was kinda disappointed in the Theon torture scenes... that's not how the Bolton's get down. The queen of Thorns was awesome. I lol'ed hard at the joke about the Iron Throne being made out of cock's so it fit Renly better. Pretty sure the pace picks up at episode 4.
The show is a great adaptation. Obviously, some of the subplots and history falls to the waist side and you don't get into the characters' heads. The books are seriously my favorite series. Knocked Harry Potter out of the number one spot.
They are really tough to get through. They will consume you and ruin your view on fantasy. So much deception. No one is safe. Books 2 & 4 were the toughest for me to get through.
Almost done with season 1... already. Its a pretty damn good show. Addicting.
How is the show compared to the books?
Even better. The show does a great job, but there are so many plots, sub plots, hidden details, dreams and prophecies... hints and pieces of things to be put together that the show flowers over to streamline it some. You also get a much better feel for the characters because the books are told through many different character ppv's. You can read each book 3 or more times and still find details and subtle points that you missed along the way. Read them.
I kind of get that from the show too... I'll be honest I was expecting a more epic fantasy in essence of Lord of the Rings. Game of Thrones is nothing like that, focusing, like you said, more on the politics and deception of "feudal-fantasy" society. Its quite interesting...
Where most fantasy have a defined good vs evil feel, I don't really know who I'm 100% rooting for right now. Although I hate the Lannisters, except Tyrion is cool.

That's how I was when I first started watching. I really liked the Starks at first, but that slowly faded. My favorite characters now are Arya Stark, Daenerys Targaryen and Tyrion Lannister.

No mention of book three rage? lol
Book 3 pissed me off but I got through that one almost as quick as book 5. Book 5 realllllly pissed me off, but we won't go into why.

Yea, those are probably my three favorite as of right now too. Khal Drogo is a badass too.

I really recommend reading them. They redefine modern fantasy.
