I never smoke and they are probably my second favorite band of all time. I usually only listen while driving or while at the gym. Sometimes while playing x-box or something. I somewhat agree that you need to give then most of your attention, but it doesn't have to be gay like sitting under the stars and listening to them.
I think it does take a considerable amounts of listens for each album to reallyget into them doe. Most bands albums reach the pinnacle of awesomeness around the 4th or 5th listen. With Tool it actually only gets better and still gets better with 15, 20, or more listens. I would constantly find new things that I would find to be new and awesome after that many listens.
