I read an article today on lynryd skynyrd and how they werent gonna fly the confederate flag anymore at their concert. naturally southern hicks got butthurt and they decided they were gonna again... just curious at what people view the flag as do you view it as...

It's kinda both.... Southern heritage has racism deep in it's roots. I've met some racist from KC and being from Washington I've never really experienced that sort of racism before. So yeah the flag might be a symbol of southern heritage, but that heritage also includes racism so it is really a symbol of hate.

agree. i just feel that if i was southern i would want to remove myself from that heritage, not be proud of it...

I had a friend who was black from Florida. He drove from Florida to Washington... He said driving through the southern states was scary as fuck for him. They kept their head down and didnt get out of the car except to get gas.... and he said when he saw a car with the confederate flag that meant to stay the fuck away from them....

Was he overreacting? Probably... but that is the view he had of the flag.

In terms of rock or metal I view it more as a symbol of rebellion.

Other than that its pretty much racist. Even if it is southern pride... I see a lot of them down here

hmmm id be the jugde of that.. just bcause theyre a little less ignorant (possibly) doesnt mean they are more liberal.. if you asked them key liberal social questions..the answers would still come out extremely conservative

i think its a piece of history so it shouldnt go away altogether
i mean, preserve it as a historical item and teach about it, but dont fly one thinking the south is gonna freakin try to succeed from the union or some shit

I guess I should say more liberal than one might think.

Blacks and whites intermingle with no problem. It seems most people support Obama or independents over Romny (especially by Belmont and Vanderbilt). Also, the only real confederate flags you see around Nashville are at like Civil War sites....

I mean, it's probably not as liberal compared to a northern state, but for a southern city it really isn't that hickish at all.

idk, that flag will always have some sort of tie to slavery to me for some reason. they made that flag before/during the civil war, right? they were fighting for slavery and shit, right? i don't know my history lol.
