I see your point, its frustrating when cookie cutter/mainstream appealing bands saturate a genre. But the guitarist from Torche was in Floor. Its not like he is some kid trying to ride the wave ya know? Not saying you can't dislike him, just pointing that out.
I kind of see Satan's point. There is a current wave of sludge that is more palatable to a more mainstream audience. Bands like Mastodon, Baroness and Kylesa have taken a more rock oriented direction in sound and newer bands like Red Fang and Torche could easily be played on a hard rock radio station or something. I personally don't mind the movement, though.
My friend told me about Floor before we saw Torche, but I'd personally never heard them. I don't necessarily think the current crop of stoner bands are "going for the gold", but it's almost inevitable that some will pop up soon considering the genres popularity.
