God damnit! Those things are so fucking beautiful. Ugh well gotta think of a new one now.
short haired dogs have just as much hair as most other dogs and they do shed. the hair is just shorter. I am allergic to short haired dogs because of the oil and dander in the undercoat and get a nasty rash.
I am partial to dogs I don't have to bend over to pet. Bernese Mountain Dogs, Great Pyrenese, Newfoundland. loyal, good with kids, protective without being agressive but bad hip problems run in all these breeds if they've been bred for size.
I always recommend adoption from local shelters. even for specific breed rescues. and never ever buy cats or dogs or larger birds from a pet store. if you want a specific breed, the akc can direct you to reputable breeders in your area.

what other breeds are in your top5?
The only think I dont like about Dobermans is how skinny and serious they are. My neighbor had a doberman and I dont think I ever saw the dog get supper excited they were home. But yeah... very loyal, for sure would protect the home.
My boxer gets so excited when I come home it's like im walking though the door with a giant turkey leg for her.
That's what I loved about Roxy. She was the happiest, energetic, and sweetest thing I've ever had. But yeah a Dobey will make an amazing guard dog, and they'll listen to you very well. My top 5 in no order are
If I was picking from that list I would go with a Boxer, followed by a Doberman. I agree the Ridge back are good looking dogs.
Wouldnt want a Pitbull mostly because of the image it brings. I understand a Pitbull can be raised to be a nice dog, but people will still freak out on you. I also think that if your dog bites someone because they are defending you or something, that it is much more likely that it will be put down if it is a pitbull.
Four years ago I moved into an apartment with a friend and we had no pets which was weird to me and after I month I couldn't take it broke down and started looking for a dog. My wife (girlfriend at the time) suggested that I may like boxers and I really didn't know much about them atthe time. Started researching them and fell in love. Now they are by far my favorite breed.
You tryin to be a hero fool? You wanna see badass mother fucker?! I'll show ya a badass!!!

Wow I actually had no idea how many Boxer fans were in this forum
Boxer's are sweet dogs and anyone whose owned one would agree. The only area they might lack in is protection. But they have fantastic personalities, a good looking dogs, have small hair so dont require as many baths and dont stink on hot days, and are super great with people. You'll never hear of a boxer biting someone. You should know, you had one here's mine
