Plasma vs LCD

Raaaa....my 7 year old Fujitsu 42" Plasma TV that I bought 6-7 years ago for the price of my left testicle has just shit itself so I need to go TV hunting.
The price of TVs has come down considerably but I'm confused because there are so many options available now, so what do you get?
Some are Wifi enabled, others have 2-3 USB ports or they are LED, LCD,
Plasma, HDMI, HD, 3D, Skype enable or this # Hertz or his # pixels....
How the fuck do you compare apples with apples?
I need about a 40-42" and I'm not into gaming so can someone please explain what some of these options mean?

plus Internet Opz HDMI the only thing is all new TVs except Visio has went with Optical HDMI audio out... so if you have a surround sound system and its RCA youll have to buy adapter

I have a Bose surround sound and a Sony DVD with recordable hard drive and I'm pretty sure they all have RCA plugs....so good thinking Catz

I don't like 3d but it won't die. They are developing a tv 4xs greater than a 1080p so that they can actually produce a 3d tv that will look like 1080p and you won't have to use glasses for. When you have a 1080p tv now and use 3d on it the 3d downgrades the tv considerably.

Actually you should give a lot of fucks about 3d because while these dumbasses are buying up 3d tvs you can get others for a steal.

3D TV's will never become baseline cuz a little over 10% of the population can't watch them for medical reasons (migraines, ect...)

just FYI - it's damn near impossible to get a tv that was made in the last year that is not a 3D tv. sure you can get non 3D tv's, but those tv's were made several years ago. Show me a "smart tv" that isnt also 3D. "Smart" TV's are pretty cool.

These 3D glasses aren't the shitty ones you get at the movies. They adapt to each eye and have frame rates. So the whole having a "migraine" and stuff won't happen.
