Dokken is reuniting

On Sunday, February 21, guitarist George Lynch (LYNCH MOB, SOULS OF WE, DOKKEN) was interviewed by host Jim Alvino on the "Turn It Up" show on the WSCA 106.1 FM radio station. Topics of discussion included new albums by SOULS OF WE and LYNCH MOB; songwriting; recording with other artists; and LYNCH MOB's November 2009 West Coast shows as the support act for DOKKEN. During the chat, Lynch also revealed that he has been writing songs for a new DOKKEN album with the band's classic 1980s lineup.

An excerpt from the interview follows below.

Turn It Up: The shows that you did at the end of last year, with LYNCH MOB opening for DOKKEN, and at the end the classic lineup of DOKKEN playing together again, has that now blown up into that lineup working together again?

George Lynch: "Yes, actually it has. And that's something that isn't gonna happen for a little while. We all have our respective commitments, meaning Jeff, Mick, Don and myself are all real busy this year doing other things. But we've all made a commitment to each other to dedicate ourselves to getting back together. We've already got three songs on the table and we're gonna continue to write throughout the year and put the whole business together and probably go in the studio late fall or early winter of this year and then have a record out toward late spring of next year, and then hit the road."

The entire 27-minute interview in which Lynch discusses the new DOKKEN material offers an update on SOULS OF WE will be re-aired during "Turn It Up" on Saturday, February 27 at 6:00 p.m. EST.

Seattle progressive rock giants QUEENSRŸCHE were interviewed on January 22 by "The Men's Room" on the Seattle station KISW 99.9 FM. The chat is now available for streaming in two parts using the audio player below.

QUEENSRŸCHE played two "cabaret shows" on February 4-5, 2010 at the Snoqualmie Casino in Snoqualmie, Washington. The concerts featured Geoff Tate, Scott Rockenfield, Michael Wilton, Eddie Jackson and Parker Lundgren performing with a bunch of their friends. The Queensrÿche Cabaret was art, lust, dancing and naughty fun with the band performing their hits and never-heard-before selections accompanied by go-go dancers, burlesque dancers, drag queens, a juggler, ballet dancer, aerial artist, contortionist and much more.

Video footage of QUEENSRŸCHE's cabaret performances can be viewed below.

QUEENSRŸCHE's twelfth studio LP, the epic concept album "American Soldier", was made available from Atco/Rhino in March 2009 for a suggested list price of $18.98 (CD) and $9.99 (digital). The ambitious album encompasses a dozen songs inspired by numerous interviews with veterans conducted by Geoff Tate, the group's singer and chief songwriter, who was intent on telling their story using their words. After speaking with soldiers who served in various conflicts — from World War II to Iraq — Tate turned their firsthand experiences from the frontlines into an unflinching musical examination of the life of a solider and the consequences of war.

DREAM THEATER's Mike Portnoy has finished laying down drum tracks for the new AVENGED SEVENFOLD album. Portnoy was filling in for James "The Rev" Sullivan, who died in late December. Mike said, "What an amazing and emotional experience!

"Me and Zacky [Vengeance, AVENGED SEVENFOLD guitarist] celebrated [the completion of the drum tracks] by getting matching Death Bat tats here in the studio... I also went with Matt [AVENGED SEVENFOLD singer M. Shadows] on Saturday night when he got a new Death Bat tat with Jimmy's face."

Portnoy continued, "I must thank the amazing AVENGED SEVENFOLD fans for being so open and welcoming to me. I was fearing them being very defensive over The Rev's drum throne, but they've all been so supportive, open-minded, understanding and excited by the news... It is a huge relief to me and the guys!

"What an awesome family spirit these guys have... lotsa love! Shadows, [Synyster] Gates [guitar], Zacky and Johnny [Christ, bass] are now my brothers for life... Hopefully this wont be the last time I play with them.

"And oh yeah... The album is gonna be incredible! The Rev is absolutely looking down with a big-ass smile on his face!"

AVENGED SEVENFOLD announced Portnoy's participation in their fifth album on February 17, calling him Sullivan's "all-time favorite drummer. "

Sullivan was found dead at his Huntington Beach, California home on December 28. The cause of death has yet to be announced pending lab reports.

AVENGED SEVENFOLD's new album is due out sometime later this year

Dream Theater is dead to me. Portnoy should die like the Rev for drumming for that terrible band.
