It's not really rewarding them. How else are they going to get people to participate? Besides, I'm pretty sure they're well aware that it's probably going to be spent on cocaine. These studies don't last just a day, or a week, or a month, they can last years, especially if they're determining how a substance affects the brain over a long period of time. All kinds of studies give you money, so it would be pretty unfair to deny these people of it as well.
