How do 4 bands split a $3 cover?

bands make money off merch, thats pretty much it until you get to 15-20 buck shows

Okay the Headlining band is a local band called Blood of the Prophets. Their merch consists of hoodies and a demo. I'm sure they'll make some cash off of that..but still

The venue will take money off the ticket which I doubt many people will attend. I'm thinking about going since its so cheap. The vocalist threw up when they opened the Chimaira show in Toledo lol

Yea Chuck, you wouldn't understand I don't think, 'cause you're not a Musician, but for me, and many others, it's just about being heard and playing Music for the love of it. Not the money, I'd play a show for no money, shit. Of course, money makes it that much more rewarding, but that comes later on. Well....SOMETIMES it does, lol.

I think it's good that they don't make money early on. It makes work harder. What makes me angry that bands don't get payed when they have worked hard, they deserve it, and make superior music to everyone else.

yeah, but you need to make money. what you going to do if you break some skins or strings? what if your amp blows or you break the shell of your drum? not cheap. need to make that money. i agree though. i loved playing on stage and the rush is exciting. i rather play so my music can be heard, but in the end it also comes down to making money =\

$3 cover is probably split between the venue and the headlining act. The rest of the bands don't get crap besides exposure

But yeah most venues around here local bands dont make money on shows.

Actually how it works with most venues is if you wanna play a show, they give each bands lets say 20 tickets at 5 bucks. You have to sell those 20 tickets or whatever you dont sell you have to pay for.

Jake, it actually works like this.......the band or the band's representative and the venue agree to terms of compensation before the band is ever allowed to play. This could be anything from a flat rate to a percentage of the door to the entirety of the door plus a flat rate. It all depends on what the market will bear. Those venues that do the "pay to play" game by forcing a band to buy x amount of tickets and sell them usually tell the bands to keep what they've sold as their compensation for the night.

Just a little insider info as I've been doing this for a few years now.
