if you don't know what you are doing, just leave Windows 7 on the laptop......
it will not work with our program to talk to the pieces of heavy equipment making the brand new lap top useless for its intended purpose
Laptops are pretty much built around whatever operating system they are on. some hardware may not work with XP, every driver would have to be updated and checked out manually. XP would find some but not all. it would be a pain in the ass.....
so what your saying is they wasted money on this laptop and might as well throw it out because if xp wont work its nothing more than a paper weight to us
it can be done....see the link i posted above. someone asked the same question and got a few different answers. i was looking a tthe posint of view of doing a total format and installing XP from scratch
yeah we're not worried about losing any data on it because we havent installed any work related programs on it yet

Did you try running the programs you have in "XP mode"??? Windows 7 and Windows Vista both have the ability to run the program in a mode that makes it seem as if it was running from XP. You just right click on the application, and go to properties, and somewhere in there is a compatibility mode button.
