It isn't a real genre, it is pretty much a label some prog metal bands(and BOO) get for having that guitar sound.

Most Djent bands are crappy and all sound alike. But, when Djent is good, it's good. My favorite Djent bands are Sikth, Tesseract, Periphery, Nerve End, and Animals As Leaders.
