I had an interesting argument yesterday and thought I would bring it here. I was watching the news and they made some statement that 1 in 3 child girls and 1 in 5 child boys are sexually abused/molested. My instant reaction to that comment was that it was total bullshit. There was no way that statistic was valid unless it is a statistic of the ghetto. Anyways, that was the starting point to the debate because they thought it was absurd that I would claim that children have a greater chance of being molested or sexually abused in the ghetto.
So that is my uneducated claim- If you have two neighborhoods where 1 neighborhood has a average household income of 200k and the mother stays at home to raise the kids, verses another neighborhood where both parents are worked like dogs and bring home 20k, those children have a much higher percentage of being murdered, beat up, sexually abused, or being the victims of theft. Furthermore I think their odds of being successful (by general society terms) is much lower than someone born into a rich environment.
Anyone disagree with my statement?

My thought was “not surprising”, look where she lives? For maybe 200 dollars more per month she could move to the suburbs, put her kid in an upper middle class school…. She could afford it but she would have a 30 minute commute. She doesn’t want to do that.
Seems stupid to me. Look at what happened to your child? Move him to a better life?! I mean jesus Christ! You are a mom now and that is just the sort of shit you need to do. Move back to your beloved ghetto next decade when you don’t have kids.
Anyways... Apparently I am wrong because “her living situation has nothing to do with him being sexually abused”. Really? I bet it does.
What a shitty mother, though. I would call her out on that bullshit.
it isnt my place to call this lady out. She isnt my friend, I just know of her. When she found out about the sexual abuse she moved from a shitty house in the ghetto to a shitty apartment in the ghetto, and my comment was "get the fuck out of the ghetto"
I also call people out in public if they are being rude to employees somewhere. I'll stand behind them and be like "Wow, someone certainly has a stick up their ass..." and they instantly shut up. :-))
But like you mentioned, in this case I am not ever around this person to call them out. I've met her a few times, but at that point in time I hadnt heard about her child being abused. And I really thought that maybe this was the most she could afford. I doubt I'll ever run into them again since I live a united states away from them.
They quickly stopped and kept looking over at our table and were trying to be quieter and stopped being mean to their kids after that.
I DONT NEED TO BE KISSING ANY ASS AT PRICES LIKE THAT
"I WANT A CANDY BAR NOW!"
