I don't know why you people want bands you like on Gayhem. You know it will be just like the last two years where there's a few good bands and a load of shit, and the few good bands have short sets. I'd much rather see them for cheaper with longer sets and better bands.
Save your money, go to MDF or CIM (unless you save enough for Europe), and you won't look back.
40 bucks for a ticket to Mayhem plus 20 minutes traveling time > hundreds of dollars and time off of work I could never afford for MDF. Im not denying MDF or NEMHF isnt awesome, but theyre not even in the same category as Mayhem really.

While a valid point, you can definitely go to one of those and still swing a Mayhem ticket if the lineup is worth it. Like Jake said, they are different categories of festivals.

While it is to each their own... If I didn't buy any merch or beer.. My total expenses for MDF would be about $200: ticket (All 4 days), hotel (thursday night thru monday morning) and gas (driving from Chicago) included. 2 days off of work for MDF is all I needed since it's memorial day weekend (pending you work M-F job, otherwise I see the difficulty). I'll go on the experience factor since it was recently thrown around.. The roadtrip, the debauchery with your friends, 4 days of seeing bands that make one off performances in the US at MDF, mixed with bands you may be lucky to have once a year or two in your area, the occassional band you will see a lot on top of interacting with people from all around the world is worth $200 in my eyes.

EDIT: In no way am I trying to steer this thread off topic. I can move the discussion elsewhere if need be.

CIM was only like 60 bucks for all 3 days. More bang for the buck than Mayhemfest every day. MDF, while more expensive, is also a hell of a bargain when you look at the sheer number of bands you get to see. I thought this year's Mayhemfest lineup was rather weak in comparison to years past.

How much did the 4 day pass cost you? Im assuming it was somewhere in the 100-150 dollar range. For me, since I live in Colorado, for the ticket, plus gas to drive and hotel and food costs, would probably come to around 300 or more. And thats without any merch. I generally spend about 100-150 on Mayhem totally. Of course MDF is 100x more awesome, but for a broke college kid, its just out of my reach.

4 Day pass was about $150. I also have the benefit of going with a large group of people and staying in the (shittiest) dirt cheap hotels which lowers hotel and gas expenses to a large degree. When I wrote what I did, knowing Brian, he will still dislike most of next years lineup, and MDF will be the wet dream turned reality for his musical taste.

Brian needs to bring his ass to CIM and I'll show him how to do it up correctly. It helps that I'm also employed by the festival too.

This year was my first at CIM and it won't be my last.

Was a fukkin blast wasn't it? The highlight for me was breaking up the Italians fighting with each other. Dude's nose got crushed by a pitcher of beer.

He was fukked up ALL weekend. I had to get in his ass a couple of times about trying to stage dive. I had shit tons of fun. The guys from Gortesqueuphoria were awesome as hell. They kept my head right all weekend. Jungle Rot and Nachtmystium were incredibly cool to party with too.
