For me, they are one of my favorite bands and one of the first I started listening to.
We both really want to see System and are willing to drive to Pittsburgh to see them on Ozzfest. For us, Ozzy isn't enough to drive 4 hours, he's just a bonus

No, not inthe slightest. They're a very good band. Any band can be a gateway band. I see System as being a gateway band for me but in a sense I don't because they're one of my favorite bands. They're not one of those shitty bands that just get people into heavy music (

You're trying to tell me what their significance is to me? I think they're a great band. They were a gateway band for me but I don't view them as such. Just because they were one of the first bands I got into doesn't mean their only significance was to get me into heavier music. I love the music and it was a lot of fun listening to it with my friends. At the same time, we were into Slipknot (all back in freshmen year). And that time of my life was the most fun I've ever had. I remember that time through the music we listened to. So every time I put on Toxicity (song), I see myself sitting in my friend's room playing video games. Whenever I put on BYOB, I see my friend's and I walking through the hallways singing along. Whenever I put on Violent Pornography, I see myself taking my friend's phone, turning the volume all the way up during the chorus to VP, and tossing the phone into my friend's lap in the middle of class (which yes, was lots of fun). I see all the things we were doing while listening to those songs (duality, vermilion, spit it out, question!, chop suey, and the list goes on and on)

Yeah man, freshmen year was when I really started to hang out with people and made my best friends who I now consider my brothers. We were all listening to the same stuff (Slipknot, SOAD, Scars on Broadway, Serj Tankian), hanging out all the time, just having a blast. It was loads of fun. It sucks that college is in 5 months since 2 of my brothers will be off at Virginia Tech and me an my other brother will be at George Mason. At least me and my bro at GMU will be rooming together \m/

Seriously though, that's lovely that they remind you of the past, but that is BECAUSE THEY WERE A GATEWAY BAND. That's certainly a good reason to hold something dear, but stop acting like there's more to it. There isn't.
