1. The Seven Mile Journey - Notes For the Synthesis
No other album is even close in my opinion, including the more popular post-rock releases (EITS, Mogwai).
I'd say it's probably the best post-rock release so far. I'm awaiting on sleepmakeswaves to anoint it the best of the year, but yeah, it's that good. All of that Godspeed You! Black Emperor esque instrumentation is refreshing, and it's just a new take on a classic sound.
21. The Black Dahlia Murder - Ritual
Take it easy, man, it leaked today...
Oh, Long Distant Calling is Post-Metal?
I'll download it...
They're not that heavy, no.
Yeah, LDC are just on the heavier side of post-rock. Post-metal isn't a good way to describe them. I love that album to death though.

Parts of this album are right up there with some of the most powerful works of Godspeed. And I never thought I'd say that about another post-rock band.
I'll frankly be surprised if it doesn't make my end-of-year #1. Sleepmakeswaves will have to achieve a level far beyond my realm of expectations to beat it.

I've heard Aura but not Earthshine. I'll do it tonight.
I can understand your reaction to Notes for the Synthesis, it's a brilliant release. I think that GY!BE will always have the most powerful post-rock along with EITS, but this definitely is in its caliber. I am also a huge sucker for pianos in post-rock. Speaking of pianos, go with the new Circadian Eyes album, Who We Were. They really take the piano oriented post-rock in a new direction, it's beautiful.
I'm still looking for that album this year though, the one that just fucks me up beyond belief. Think it could be Cormorant, sleepmakeswaves or Vektor, but I just don't know.
Yes, I've heard Who We Were, and I love it. This is the first album The Seven Mile Journey have really incorporated piano in I think. It works beautifully, especially being the driving force behind Transits.
it might just be me but the only post- anything i've been able to get into is Fen - Epoch. everything else i just find extremely boring. its not bad per say, but i find myself bored of it very quickly.

I discovered a whole new world of music when I discovered patience.

Most of the postrockxchange album list, in no order. These are all the albums I'm to listen and rank and then assimilate with the metal list. I'm such a loser.
I'm listening to new Burzum for the first time. I should have downloaded this earlier, I'm enjoying the hell out of it so far. Similar style to old Burzum with all the arpegiation and tremolo melodies, but the chord choice at times is different in style. I feel like Varg had all that time to really develop his style of guitar playing, so it's nice to hear just Varg playing his instrument in his own style. Gives it a very folkish quality, which meshes well with the Trvest Black Metal.

I will give it a chance since I've really yet to do so with that band.
for the love of odin do not try to take the band seriously as they are meant to be a joke. The song Scraping the Barrel is even about them making fun of themselves.
