Recording equipment

Hey guys... i'm interested in buying some recording equipment. I'm looking for something that would be able to record vocals, drums, guitar, whatever without too much of a problem. I honestly dont know too much about recording equipment ATM, and was wondering if any of you had suggestions.

I can tell you right now that a line 6 pod x3 live will record guitar and bass. The song quality isn't up to standards as if you use a great mic into a 4X12 cab.

i asked a friend what he uses and he told me i could use a condenser mic with a USB into a computer to initially record it. He uses Garage Band to mix and w/e...

so if I was to some sort of program for the comp, do you think this would work?

or would a Pod be better?

i really dont know much about recording...

If you're just recording a guitar get a Line 6 toneport or a Line 6 Pod X3. It will do you fine for what you want, and if you buy Reaper you can make things sound more professional.

If you get a high quality mic, Reaper can do it all.
Professional artists use Reaper and I know that Killswitch uses it.

At least an 8 channel audio interface (Roughly $500.), Drum Mics (I'm getting nice 8 piece set for $120.) a mixer for better sound, and all the cables and shit. A condenser mic as well for Vocals, not too sure about Guitar, but I know you can use the audio interface with Guitar as well.

I would say invest more in actual mics and whatever. For the moment, just use Audacity to record/mix/etc. It's free.

thats kinda what i was thinking. getting some mics, and a pod maybe. then getting a free or cheap studio until i can afford to buy a better one, like Reaper.

Yeah, because if you have good sounding things that you've recorded, you really wont have to worry too much about mixing. Audacity has some good things you can use and you can change the volume levels which is really all that matters. You're not opening a studio so you'll be fine haha.
