I love Metallica and the Black album sucks. It has some of the best production in metal history, but the writing is severely lacking.
I don't think the writing was lacking, I just think it was too different compared to their thrash albums. There were still some great songs on the album like The Unforgiven, Wherever I May Roam, and Nothing Else Matters.

A few songs =/= an album.
Especially after releasing a borderline prog thrash album, the black album is a total step in the wrong direction. It's just like when Carcass released Swansong. Some good songs, but not what the band should be doing.

Different isn't always bad though
The Black Album was more of a laid back rock album. Dont really hear anything thrash like the entire thing.
Yes there were other, better examples but that was the first one that came to my mind as I'm a casual listener of Metallica but that song is a thrash song. Not a great example of thrash but still thrash
It actually is, it has that thrash kick to it. It may be the worst example of thrash in the world, which I don't think it is, but it's still a thrash song

This is better than Metallica, Toxic, and Haunted.
Chelsea Grin isn't even as good as Metallica's sellout albums.

I ain't got no crystal ball.
The only song I would consider remotely thrash is Through The Never. Everything else is just metal.
