Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger may be ending his 17th season in the NHL with his fourth surgery in 10 months.
Calling this year the "toughest" of his career, Pronger said on a conference call with reporters: "The year from hell is over. I started the season with a surgery and I'm going to end it probably, who knows, whether I get another one or not."
Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren told CSNPhilly.com that Pronger has either a bulging or herniated disk and it is uncertain if he will need back surgery. The report said his status will be updated later in the week.
Pronger said he did not know when the injury occurred, but he started to feel pain in Game 7 of the first round against the Buffalo Sabres.
The defenseman added that his surgically repaired hand was not 100 percent but was healed enough for him to play, according to NHL.com.
Pronger had surgery on his right knee in August, his right foot in January and his right hand in March. He played only 50 regular-season games and limited time in three postseason games.
The Boston Bruins announced their game, practice and media availability schedule for the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoff Eastern Conference Finals series against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Games 1 and 2 of the B’s/Lightning series will be played in Boston at the TD Garden on Saturday, May 14 at 8:00 p.m. ET and on Tuesday, May 17 at 8:00 p.m. ET. The Lightning will then host the Bruins for Games 3 and 4 on Thursday, May 19 at 8:00 p.m. ET and Saturday, May 21 at 1:30 p.m. ET at the St. Pete Times Forum. If necessary, Game 5 is set for Monday, May 23 at 8:00 p.m. ET in Boston, while Game 6 will be back in Tampa Bay on Wednesday, May 25 at 8:00 p.m. ET, and Game 7 will be played in Boston on Friday, May 27 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
