Gillies needs to sit for the rest of the year. Looks like he didn't learn his lesson.
That is correct. He'll probably get about 12-15 for this one. It was a very dumb play to make. I love that he was defending DiBenedetto, but keep the hands down and there's no problem here. You ESPECIALLY do NOT do something like this in your first game back following a 9 game suspension.
However, this hit was nowhere near as bad as people are making it out to be. The intial hit on DiBo by Clutterbuck was way worse, but it seems to have been forgotten by everybody. That really pisses me off. I am not condoning Gillies actions (in fact, I want him off my team and will probably have my wish when his contract expires in the summer), but for everybody to be turning a blind eye to the more dangerous hit by Clutterbuck really pisses me off.
I don't have a problem with it, and at the same time I do.
No problem: He deserved it. Dumb hit. Not a terrible hit, but not a clean hit either. Also, you just don't do something like that in your 1st game back from a 9 game suspension.
Problem: How does he get 10 for this when I have seen many hits similar to this that go unpunished, and many hits that are way worse than this that go unpunished, or are punished very lightly.
Other problem: Cal Clutterbuck's hit that started the whole thing was much worse than this hit, and it only got a 2 minute penalty and isn't even being looked at for supplementary discipline. As well as Milan Lucic last night who delived a butt-end to and opponents face. That isn't being looked at either.
Trevor is being made an example of, and it is not fair to him at all. That is what really irritates me.
after watching the video the Clutterbuck hit was WAY dirtier then the Gillies hit
It was, but it still doesn't make Gillies hit any less dumb. That's what it was. It was dumb to do. But yeah, all I want is something to come of the Clutterbuck hit, or the Lucic crosscheck to Moore. But nothing will.

Like I said, I AGREE with the suspension. Just not the inconsistency of suspending him, but no hearing for a cross check to the head by Lucic.
