Based on what Dana said, Conor's acting like a fucking brat and he thought he could whatever the fuck he wanted to. Doing press is mandatory. Always has been. Conor didn't get his way so he's ''retiring'' to show the UFC. This is all ridiculous.
Another interesting point people are bringing up, is that once you're retired, it preempt's USADA the right to test you. Maybe he knew he wouldn't test clean, so he ''retired'' temporarily. This "Conor refused to do press" could just be a cover up by the UFC to save face.
It's just the timing of all of this doesn't really make any sense.
I get that Dana wants him in Vegas. Everyone else is gonna be there. But I also get him not wanting to do press yet after seeing that dude get beat up. It's unfortunate.
It could be about money too who knows.
Id be surprised if they don't patch things up in the next couple of weeks.
if they don't patch things up then you can put your money on GSP getting the call.
This shit is stupid. Conor & ronda have lapped the field in terms of amount of press they have done compared to everyone else. He doesn't want to fly across the world for a weekends worth of promotional stuff. Its a power move by dana. Which sucks because the only people losing out are the fans. Might not buy 200 out of protest now.
UFC is in a bad way right now. Their two biggest cash cows Ronda (loses in devastating fashion to a girl who gets choked out in her next fight) and Conor who kills the king at featherweight to only be soned at welterweight by a gatekeeper and then retires. A lot of money is being lost here. I'm not saying this is the end of the UFC but some changes are going to come because of this. Dana is probably shitting himself right now, no matter how much he tried to act like a hardass on ESPN yesterday.
Damn, Dana just called Conor's bluff. He said he better clear up this retirement thing and do it fast or he's being stripped. If he's really retired, it's Edgar/Aldo at 200 for the vacant title.
i did find it funny that they "pulled" him from 200 but there was no mention of his belt. All of this is just a power move by the UFC to put conor in check.
Conor has always said that media isn't something anyone likes to do, but that it has to be done. It sounds to me that he is bummed out by seeing that guy get beat up and finding out later that he died. Seems like he just wasn't in the mood to do the media.

This right here makes the most sense honestly.
