out of curiosity, why is it so many metal people and publications are fucking with synthwave? Nothing against it, I just think it's weird there's so much crossover
I honestly don't know, other than probably the heaviness and retro vibe resonates well with metal fans.
Synthwave artists know the crossover potential too, as artists like Dan Terminus and Perturbator are on BloodMusic now, and Perturbator played Brutal Assault this year.
Additionally, I've spoken online with Dan Terminus and VHS Glitch too, and they have said that they are into metal. Perturbator runs his synths through overdrive and distortion pedals, and Carpenter Brut tours with a full band (guitarist and drummer) too, so it isn't just a DJ playing. The artists are basically metal people playing in an electronic style

Similar themes. Horror, science fiction, dystopian societies, etc.
There's also more distinguishable instruments in synthwave than in other EDM music. You can still hear drums and bass, there is just a synth lead instead of guitar. Hell, sometimes there is still guitar.
I've started a synth remix of Rock Lobster. Will post when done.
This was going to be for a school project, but its proving more complicated than I expected. I still wanna do it, it just doesnt flow like I thought it would.
Me and my partner are now changing to doing a synth remix of Tupac's Pain.
