Roman played no part in QB development, which is the first reason that's a bad hire. He has very poor situational play calling, for another. Third, he is incredibly incapable of making adjustments during the game or even during the season. The best description I saw of the 49ers offense all season was "it's almost as if they're finding out what works for them, and then abandoning it immediately."
