Petrucci, Myung, and Rudess are some of the best musicians on their respective instruments. Portnoy was like the Steve Harris of the band and overlooked everything. With him gone, it could free up the other members to try out their ideas. This could definitely be a positive thing for Dream Theater.
I'm sure if D. Carey wasn't doing an album with ze TOOL right now. They would contact him to take Portnoy's place for now. BUT I DON'T WANT THEM TO >:O
