Former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy has announced that he will continue touring with Avenged Sevenfold throughout next year.
While initial plans were for Portnoy to tour with the band until the end of 2010. However, the drummer confirmed in a recent interview with Sabian Cymbals that he will continue with the band after the Rock Star Uproar Tour and complete the full touring cycle.
This announcement comes a month after Mike Portnoy left progressive metal giants Dream Theater, citing a need of a break from the band's constant "write-record-tour-repeat" cycle. John Petrucci, guitarist for the band, announced that the band will begin auditions for a new drummer later this month.
Rumors are swirling as to whether or not Mike is to become the new, permanent drummer for Avenged Sevenfold, filling in the shoes of Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan, who passed away in December of last year from a drug overdose.
Portnoy also recorded the drums tracks as a tribute to Sullivan on the band's number one album "Nightmare", released in July.
No word from the band of Mike Portnoy as to his position in the band.
