Don't gimme that shit. I said I was playing since 4-5, and that ain't a lie, so I was still playing right around the time it blew up, give or take a year.
And I was obsessed with it, watched every episode, spent countless hours on the games, and I still got so many of the VHSs and toys that I had got back then. I remember the first Pokemon movie made me cry like a bitch when Pikachu started crying 'cause Ash was turned into a stone lol.

you said you were the target "RIGHT" when it came out. 1998 is when it blew up so you were a year or two late to the party in the case.
Still, those first 3-5 years, even beyond that, were when it was absolutely massive and you couldn't get away from it. Plus, if I remember correctly, 1998 is when it dropped in Japan, and then it came here a bit later, and wasn't instantly this cult classic, it took a bit.
I went to see the movie in FL with my distant cousin. I was so excited when I got that ancient mew card..still have it and the wrapping it came in. I have learned that particular cousin in schitzophrenic and other bs now
My dad and stepmom got into an "argument" about who was the funner parent so one day my dad took 2 of my siblings and my stepmom took my sister and I around doing fun shit. We saw pokemon on opening day and got the card and all that jazz. Coolstorybro.

And btw, I've always believed the target audience for Pokémon was 7-12 year olds
