Beat FF7R last night. Definitely frontrunner for game of the year for me. Fucking incredible game. My only complaint is that even having not fully played the original and not being able to compare and contrast which parts were exact remakes and which parts were added on, by knowing that this game is the first 5 hours of the original stretched out into 40, I could tell that there was definitely some unnecessary padding that would have been better served simply covering even more of the original game. For instance, Chapters 8, 9, and 14 were all insanely bloated and all 3 took around 5 hours each. And I can’t help but feel that that would have been better served covering more of the original’s story and locations.
But being that I never played the original, I had no prior expectations for this and didn’t let any nostalgia cloud judgment, so I fully enjoyed this front to back for what it is. I seen that people were pissed about the ending, but going into this blind, I had no clue what the outrage was even as the credits rolled. So I had to do my research and even after that, it still doesn’t bother me. But I know that nostalgia definitely comes into play wit people who played the original.
And the final boss fight is boss fight of the year. Shit literally had my heart pounding and I can’t remember the last time that happened.
A couple weeks ago, PS Store had a 50% off sale on a bunch of shit, so I was able to download the remastered original FF7 for $8. Bout to start that today and finally knock out the original cause at this point I ain’t waiting years for the rest of the story thru the remake and it feels wrong to simply read about it. So I’m hoping the playthrough doesn’t feel too too dated.
>spent THREE HOURS trying to beat Ares in God of War >get to third phase >another hour goes by, FOUR HOURS TOTAL >PS3 crashed >now I gotta do the whole thing over again
>fuck that, just gonna go on to the next game(s) for now
That's usually the case when I get stuck on something. In high school I spent an entire day (12+hrs) trying to beat Mile High Club on Veteran in COD4. Almost broke a controller. Picked it up the next day and it was done within 10 minutes.
Yeah whenever I find myself getting stuck on something for over an hour, I take a break. Usually the clarity helps me sit back down and beat whatever it is in a couple of attempts.

Intended jus to pull my weeds and fruit and it quickly turned into a 3 hour session lmao. Felt good to play again tho I definitely missed it.

Already back to part 3 of final fight. Lets see if I can do this now.
