Says as much about the old coach as much as Harbaugh though. You guys get top recruiting classes just like we do. Do something with it before you bring out the parade. Personally, I'd be embarrassed if Smart lost to Florida and Tennessee then trotted out a bunch of celebs at the next signing day like he'd accomplished something. Beat MSU. Beat Ohio State. Then you can show off at signing day (if you must). Urban Myer and Nick Saban have cleaned up recently and neither one shows off almost at all. Let your wins do the talking
That's recruiting these days and that's Harbaugh. He's been completely realistic about how far the program has to go since he took the job. Michigan hasn't won a Big Ten title since 2004 and haven't competed for a national title since 2006. You can't let your wins do the talking when most recruits are too young to remember when Michigan was a consistent winner. MSU and Ohio State have built top-notch programs while Michigan dicked around with Rich Rod and Hoke. You've gotta close the gap with recruiting, and that's what he's doing. Pretty unfair to hold him to the standard of Meyer and Saban who have 8 titles combined. Of course they don't need to show off.
He's definitely setting the bar pretty high for himself. If he doesn't win something significant in the next, say, 3 years, this type of showboating is gonna make him the butt of a lot of jokes
Given his track record, I like his chances. This upcoming season is probably Michigan's best chance to contend for the Big Ten and beyond since that 2006 season.
