I need music suggestions

I need new music. I am looking for stuff in the vein of Mastodon. Progressive, not so much technical stuff, more on the sludgey, doomy, chunky riffage side.

Feel free to mention the most obvious of bands too. I dont really know much when it comes to this "genre" I have heard of Baroness, Howl, and a few others but never actually heard much or any of them. Some album or song suggestions would be sweet too

Well, my favorite two old school guys are already named, Isis and Neurosis. But you will love other already named bands like Kylesa, but also stuff like Baroness (keep that early second EP in mind too), Black Tusk, Intronaut, Mouth of the Architect, Abominable Iron Sloth, and maybe Struck By Lightning, who get really thrashy but still have a sludgy and doomy side to them. You also could like post metal band Russian Circles. Don't forget doom metal band Sleep, either.

I mentioned Buzzov*en because Howl are Buzzov*en worship.

To be honest, I think this genre is starting to blow up, and will grow greatly in the next few years.

Cult of Luna for sure. I love those guys. It's tough recommending stuff for this, because there's not too much depth.

i disagree, i think throwdown's latest album is sludge and groove. and btbam is experimental, progressive, they have a little of every genre in their shit.
