Haven't listened goatwhore in well over a year after I used to listen to then almost constantly. They're playing a bar here tonight, put em on on my way home from work and I'm hyped. Boutta drink beers and mosh.
One of my favorite shows was a last second free show upstairs at a record store after that one tour i cant remember got canceled, at least our date did. Fucking power went out in the day so the show was powered by generators. Place was so small there were people lining the stairs and out the building.
Nate from Skeletonwitch was there. Told him I'd go crazy if the two of them toured and he said they were trying to make it happen. I don't believe it did
First, glad youve listened to it man but second, im drunk you just walked into my arena motherfucker so a long post incoming.
I've listened to all their music relentlessly so I'm super picky and don't hear the Tame impala vibes but I get it. They've been around since Kev was releasing under the Tame name...He did play drums on at least one Pond album though. But every album is so different from the last yet still manages to sound like Pond it blows my mind. This new one by far has the widest/craziest sound with synths and random trippy noises...to this point it's just been pretty straight forward bass, guitar, drum and vox with a buttfuck of distortion, really. So the title fits there but also it fits because the last album Hobo Rocket was just heavy as fuck. More than half the album was just heavy riffs straight from Black Sabbath. You also just get this vibe from them. While Kevin is such a perfectionest and puts so much thought into every detail...Joe, Nick and Jay just go crazy. Every album is good for that or two song that pulls it back and hits the feels. I love Holding Out for You but on the new album I think Medicine Hat tops it for me. While I'm on this tangent of unnecessary information, I'll add that Jay Watson is the silent hero in everything recently. He released his own solo album under his nickname Gum last year, and since then his own sound has been very noticeable on the Pond album and I think he might have had some influence on the Tame Impala album.
Beards, Wives, Denim is the goat though if you haven't heard it. Came out the same year as Lonerism and has Kevin "Kaykay Sorbet" Parker on drums. I just bought an import LP recently it means that much to me lol.
But yeah its great to hear someone else that has listened to the album and isn't someone I'm talking to at a tame impala show.
