The death of a firing-range instructor at the hands of a 9-year-old girl bracing an Uzi submachine gun has set off a powerful debate over youngsters and guns, with many people wondering what sort of parents would let a child handle an Uzi.
As the girl opened fire at a black-silhouette target, the recoil wrenched the fully automatic weapon upward, and the instructor was shot in the head and killed.
Uzis don't have much of a kick. I shot one standing on one foot when I was like 11 or 12. Guns like that are meant to expel a lot of bullets, but don't get much behind them. My dad's best friend growing up was a biker gun nut. He had an entire room full of machine guns. We've already been showing my son how to work my dad's AR-15. It's all how you handle them and educate the kids about them. I'm not sure what went wrong with the 9 year old in the story, but it was prolly akin to how people let their kids get mangled by pit bulls: not enough proper training for the amount of danger involved
