I just shake their hand tell them I dig their stuff and to keep it goin.. Then I walk away.. Srsly why would they want to talk to me lol
a lot of bands do like to talk as long as youre not humiliating yourself by continuously jizzing over them. but I was keeping myself in check pretty well I think. I sat at a table most of the time anyway lol
i usually keep it short unless i know they arent busy like if i run into them in the crowd talked to oli from atr in the crowd for a good 30 minutes about how he didnt smoke weed before he played because it was too hard )
At small shows around the bay it's easy to talk to folks before and after the show do I'll chat with dudes if they aren't busy selling merch or what have you.
i mean its not like I go up to bands and OMG U GUIS ARE AMAZING I LUV U SO MUCH BBZ CAN I GET A DRUMSTICK and its not like I was looking for an interview sort of thing. but this was really the only time this had happened.
the human abstract show a couple years ago was funny/awkward in the opposite way doe. I was standing by the merch booth for THA and the singer said something to me in this tiny sounding voice and we got talking a little bit. I dont remember what it was about really, just small talk I think. he was a nice guy and all but I was about to walk away and hes like "hey you uh... you should add me on facebook!" and I was like k
It always play it by ear when it comes to talking to bands. It's odd how some of the longest conversations I've had we're with musicians I barely follow. I talked to Todd Lewis from the Toadies for like 2 hours once and I barely knew his shit. He was just cool. Same thing happened with Dale Crover. I was only a passing fan of The Melvins before we ended up having lunch together when I worked one of their shows. They're one of my favorites now. The longest I've ended up talking to someone I was a fan of was Mike Dean from COC. We hit it off and ended up spending most of the day together, hitting up record stores (dude loves hip hop) and kicking a soccer ball around behind the club
If you want good conversations with bands talk to trevor or brian from tbdm or anyone from darkest hour. It took me 8 years to finally see darkest hour and I mentioned that to lonestar when he was signing my setlist he's like that's awesome you still had interest for that long and took me back to hang out with all of the other dudes. Everyone was real laid back. Talked to them for about an hour about random shit and they spilled that years summer slaughter lineup to me two months before it got announced
You tryin to be a hero fool? You wanna see badass mother fucker?! I'll show ya a badass!!!
Talked to Trevor for a good 30 minutes after on of their shows. Dude knows his metal for sure. Talked to Brian a couple of times but if was more of a what's up, your music is sick. And that was that. Ryan and Bart were really cool dudes to talk to. Haven't met their new bassist or drummer yet. But overall Trevor is definitely the coolest musician that I have talked to.
I got kicked out of Ozzfest 07 and as I was walking around outside waiting for my ride I ran into Jamey Jasta. We talked for like half and hour. Pretty cool dude. I asked if he could get me back in and he was like "lolno" After that I ran into a venue staff guy that was picking up trash and we smoked a bowl and he gave me 2 free tickets to the Slayer/Manson show the next week \m/
I also had breakfast at Denny's at like 2am with the two chicks from Eyes Set To Kill. Had no idea who they were doe. My friend met them at their show and they invited him and then he called me and invited me. They were cool. just talked about a bunch of random shit all night. it was like hanging out with a bunch of friends. Their music still sucks.
