they can wear face protection. most choose not to. getting hit in the face with a puck is an accident anyway. all the hitting in football is on purpose

About 3/4 of the league wears visors. Still, pucks and sticks can come up under it. Hockey players play through it anyway. Whether the contact is intentional or not doesn't measure toughness.
i never said hockey players weren't tough. i think most of them are extremely tough. so are football players. i was talking about the sports. football is a more physical sport IMO

Also, it's hard for me to believe that there isn't a bigger transfer of energy in NFL hits than there is in NHL hits. Especially if it's true that they're that much smaller.
If only there were a college graduated physicist who might be able to comment with some analysis of the force...
